Hillary Clinton’s Broadway musical “Suffs” is facing challenges at the box office despite receiving multiple Tony Award nominations and positive coverage from mainstream media outlets. The show, which focuses on the suffragette movement and features a cast of women and gender non-binary performers, played to 81 percent capacity last week and dropped to 78 percent the week before, according to data from The Broadway League. This decline in attendance during Broadway’s peak season is concerning, especially when compared to other shows like “Lempicka” which recently announced its closure after playing to 83 percent capacity.

Hillary Clinton, a producer on “Suffs,” has been actively promoting the show by attending the opening night and making appearances on TV talk shows. She also used the musical as part of a fundraiser for President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda. Despite these efforts, the show is struggling to attract audiences, which is common for new musicals without a star-studded cast or recognizable brand like Disney.

Broadway’s economic landscape is tough for new productions, especially those that rely on tourists who prefer family-friendly entertainment. The fate of “Suffs” remains uncertain as it navigates the challenges of the competitive theater industry.
