Steve Buscemi, a 66-year-old star of “Boardwalk Empire,” was assaulted in New York City last week when an unidentified man punched him in the face during the day. The incident occurred while Buscemi was walking through the Kips Bay neighborhood. The assault took place just before noon on Wednesday.

A witness stated that they saw Buscemi with a woman before he was struck in the face by the attacker, causing him to fall backward. Although the attacker ran off and was not identified, video surveillance released by the NYPD showed that he was a bearded man wearing black sweatpants, a blue t-shirt, a baseball cap, and white sneakers.

After being assaulted, Buscemi, a Brooklyn native and former FDNY firefighter, was taken to Bellevue Hospital. Although he suffered a swollen left eye and some facial injuries, his representatives confirmed that he is otherwise okay. In a statement released by his publicist, Buscemi expressed gratitude for the well wishes he received and lamented the unfortunate occurrence of random violence in the city.

Buscemi’s acting career spans five decades, with notable appearances in films like “Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Fargo,” and “The Wedding Singer,” as well as on TV shows such as “The Sopranos” and “30 Rock.” However, his most iconic role to date was that of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson in “Boardwalk Empire,” for which he received a Golden Globe and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
