Following Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, the U.S. Secret Service has upgraded its security measures for the Republican National Convention, citing an abundance of caution.

The announcement comes a day after the agency said it would not make significant changes to the convention’s security plan, where Trump is scheduled to accept the GOP nomination on Thursday evening.

“We have confidence in the security plan devised by our RNC coordinator and partners, which we have reevaluated and bolstered in response to Saturday’s shooting,” U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle stated.

The agency will continually adapt its operations as needed, with input from the President, to ensure the highest level of safety and security for attendees, volunteers, and the City of Milwaukee throughout the conventions. In addition to enhanced security measures already in place for Trump’s detail since June, the agency has implemented further changes to ensure his protection for the convention and the remainder of the campaign.
