Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina responded to criticism from The View by suggesting that the hosts are fearful of the Republican Party attracting more black voters. His video response came after The View discussed former President Donald Trump’s potential vice presidential candidates, with Scott being among them. Host Sunny Hostin implied that Scott wouldn’t appeal to black voters because he is the only African American senator in the Republican Party.
Scott stated, “I’m not surprised that The View is attacking me for being the only black Republican in the Senate. They are afraid of the momentum we are building in my community, with four out of 10 black men and an increasing number of black women showing interest in voting for the Republican Party.”
Recent polls have shown a shift in black voter support, with a Wall Street Journal poll indicating that 30% of black voters may vote for Trump over President Joe Biden. This is a significant change from the 2020 election where Biden received 92% of the black vote.
Black voters are expected to make up 14% of eligible voters in 2024, up from 13.5% in 2020. Other potential running mates for Trump include Senator JD Vance, Governor Kristi Noem, and Governor Ron DeSantis, among others.
