Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah criticized President Joe Biden for not pardoning former President Donald Trump, calling it a significant error.

In an interview on MSNBC’s The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle, Romney, who is known for his criticisms of Trump, surprisingly defended the former president and argued that Biden should have pardoned him in the federal cases he faces.

Romney believed that Biden missed an opportunity to end the prosecution against Trump, which would have been a win-win situation for Trump. He suggested that had he been in Biden’s position, he would have pardoned Trump immediately, stating that it would have made him, as president, the bigger person and Trump the smaller person.

Romney referenced former President Lyndon B. Johnson as a precedent, indicating that Biden could have intervened to prevent Trump’s prosecution, even by influencing New York prosecutors in the hush money case to drop the charges.

Romney also criticized Republicans who showed support for Trump by appearing at the courthouse, calling it a mistake that undermines the legal system and diminishes the seriousness of the situation. He expressed discomfort with politicians trying to gain favor by standing outside the courthouse in a show of solidarity.
