Chicago authorities have apprehended Trevon Robinson, a 19-year-old parolee, in connection with a high-stakes carjacking that involved a $160,000 Rolls-Royce. The incident unfolded on June 27, when the 54-year-old owner of a silver 2017 Rolls-Royce Wraith was blocked in by a dark SUV in the 9100 block of South Hoyne. The owner was subsequently forced out of her vehicle at gunpoint.
An investigation was launched, and police subsequently tracked the stolen SUV to a nearby Foot Locker store using a license plate reader. As authorities watched, Robinson exited the vehicle, prompting his arrest.
Further scrutiny of the evidence revealed that the SUV involved in the carjacking had itself been stolen from a woman in the 1900 block of East 95th Street on June 8.
Prosecutors pointed to a video recorded on Robinson’s phone, which captured him following the Rolls-Royce on the day of the heist. A note on his phone also contained the victim’s home address. According to court records, Robinson had pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in April and was currently out on parole.
In light of the new allegations, state officials are now seeking to revoke his parole. Judge Deidre Dyer decided to detain Robinson, citing safety concerns.
