Women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines took a jab at Sunny Hostin over a recent comment made by the co-host of The View regarding basketball star Caitlin Clark, suggesting that Clark’s “privilege” did not aid her during a game on Saturday night.

Gaines made the remark while sharing footage of Clark’s game between her team, the Indiana Fever, and the Chicago Sky. During this match, Sky player Chennedy Carter shoulder-checked Clark, causing her to fall, with the incident being widely shared online.

“Her 1) white privilege 2) straight privilege 3) pretty privilege and/or 4) tall privilege didn’t help her here, huh @sunny?” Gaines, an Outkick host, posted on X.

Last month, Hostin suggested that part of Clark’s recent popularity surge is due to “white privilege” and “pretty privilege.” Hostin also challenged the stigma surrounding WNBA players and their sexual orientations.

“I think people have a problem with basketball-playing women who are lesbians,” Hostin said. “Who cares? They are great athletes.”

Following Hostin’s comments, TNT’s Charles Barkley argued that some women are being “petty” in their negativity towards Clark and insisted they should be grateful for the attention she’s brought to the WNBA.

Clark was the first overall pick by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA draft in April, an accomplishment she described as a dream come true and the result of years of dedication. Before joining the WNBA, she played at the University of Iowa from 2020 to 2024 and was named the 2024 women’s college basketball National Player of the Year.
