Newly discovered photos of suspected serial killer Rex Heuermann show him at a gun club in Manorville, New York, just miles away from where the remains of two women were found days later. The photos, taken in 2006, allegedly show Heuermann at the Peconic River Sportsman’s Club on the day before Jessica Taylor disappeared.
The gun club confirmed that Heuermann attended some public gun safety events and participated in marksmanship competitions, but was not a member. The club stated that the last time they could verify Heuermann’s presence was in April 2010.
Police had previously visited the gun club, asking for records after the discovery of bodies in Manorville. Legal analyst Misty Marris emphasized the importance of photographic evidence in cases involving aged forensic evidence.
“From the prosecutor’s perspective, putting him in the area is certainly something that’s going to be very impactful for the case,” Marris said.
In a recent news conference, attorney John Ray claimed to have evidence showing Heuermann’s family members’ involvement, but did not provide a direct link to the six women’s deaths. Ray referenced violent content his children had shared and liked online, but did not provide concrete evidence.
Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney has clarified that Heuermann’s wife, Asa Ellerup, and her children were out of town each time Heuermann allegedly committed crimes. However, legal analyst Misty Marris cautioned against making presumptive claims about the family’s involvement until evidence is presented.
