During a recent MSNBC interview, Rep. Pramila Jayapal accused Republicans of attempting to exploit antisemitism for political gain by pushing divisive bills like the Antisemitism Awareness Act. Instead of truly addressing antisemitism, Jayapal argued, both parties should come together to create a bipartisan bill and implement a comprehensive government-wide approach to educating people on what antisemitism truly is. She criticized Republicans for using antisemitism as a political tool, rather than genuinely addressing the issue.
The bill in question passed the House with a majority of both Democratic and Republican support, although some Democrats and Republicans had reservations about it. It was co-sponsored by a small number of Democrats and Republicans.
