Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) co-opted a Jewish tradition to push for the dismantling of the Jewish state in a recent social media post. The post, published on October 6, marked the anniversary of the Hamas terror attack on October 7.
Tlaib participated in a ceremony with JVP-Detroit, a local chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace, an organization known for its vocal support of extremist groups. The event featured a distorted version of the traditional Jewish ceremony of Tashlich, where participants symbolically cast away their sins by throwing bread crumbs into a body of water.
However, Tlaib’s ceremony took a different tone, as she used the occasion to call for a “free, free Palestine,” a rallying cry often associated with the eradication of the Jewish state. This stance is consistent with Tlaib’s previous advocacy for a one-state solution, which would effectively mean the dissolution of Israel as a Jewish state.
Tlaib’s actions have raised concerns about her true intentions, particularly given her organization’s history of sympathetic rhetoric towards terrorist groups. The University of Michigan chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace recently sparked outrage by eulogizing a Hezbollah terrorist leader and calling for “death to Israel.”
