Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) shared with Truth Voices his intention to introduce a resolution on Thursday to render the ATF’s universal background check rule ineffective. The ATF proposed a rule on August 31, 2023, which expands the requirement for unlicensed sellers to use the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) when selling or transferring firearms. The rule blurs the line between private gun sales and those sold by FFL holders, creating ambiguity and placing additional burdens on sellers. Rep. Clyde aims to block this rule through his resolution, which has gained support from 86 Republican co-sponsors. He believes that the ATF’s rule infringes on Americans’ Second Amendment rights and represents an overreach of power by the Biden Administration. Clyde is urging his colleagues to support his measure and protect citizens’ rights to engage in lawful firearms transactions without unnecessary hurdles.
