Rep. Gabe Amo (D-RI) appeared on NewsNation’s The Hill on Friday, where he was asked about Vice President Kamala Harris’s economic plan, specifically her proposal to address corporate price gouging. Host Blake Burman questioned whether Harris’s plan amounts to price controls, citing criticism from The Washington Post and The New York Times, as well as from Jason Furman, a former top economist under Barack Obama.

Amo deflected the criticism, instead framing Harris’s plan as a response to the concerns of everyday Americans. “What the Vice President is articulating is what Americans are feeling,” he said. “They feel constrained, unable to thrive in this economy. We’re not just talking about rhetoric; we’re talking about a comprehensive agenda to drive opportunity and address the issues that matter most to people.”

Amo pointed to the need for policies that benefit middle-class households, citing the challenges of buying a home and dealing with price gouging. He also highlighted the success of the child tax credit, which was part of the American Rescue Plan and has been credited with cutting child poverty in half. “That’s what we’re focused on,” he emphasized, “making sure that all Americans can feel the benefits of our economy.” The conversation was then interrupted by Burman, who asked for clarification on the tax implications of Harris’s plan.
