The mother of murder victim Rachel Morin, Patty Morin, said she was deeply touched by a phone call from former President Donald Trump, who offered his condolences following the arrest of an illegal immigrant believed to be the assailant.

Patty Morin, the mother of the 37-year-old victim, released a statement through her attorney, saying Trump personally reached out to her on Thursday morning to talk about her daughter’s death. Morin described Trump as genuine and truly concerned about the family’s well-being.

Rachel Morin, a mother of five, was murdered while jogging on the Ma & Pa trail in Harford County, Maryland, last August. The prime suspect was arrested in Oklahoma over the weekend after a 10-month search involving the FBI and local authorities.

Trump’s call came after Patty Morin appeared on Fox News, saying she believed the crime would have been prevented if Trump’s immigration policies were still in place. She expressed frustration with the lack of border security and the feeling that the country’s doors had been left open.

The family’s attorney, Randolph Rice, also thanked Trump for his call, describing it as a “consoling” act that showed the former president’s care for Americans.
