Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg is confident that Bryan Kohberger will face the death penalty if convicted of the murders of four University of Idaho students, despite efforts by his defense team to have the death penalty removed from the case.

Aronberg expressed his opinion on the matter during an appearance on Banfield on Friday, stating that Idaho’s conservative leanings and the severity of the crimes would ultimately lead to a capital punishment sentence.

Kohberger, a 29-year-old graduate student in criminal justice, is accused of breaking into an off-campus rental house in November 2022 and killing students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. He faces charges of first-degree murder and burglary, and prosecutors have indicated that they will pursue the death penalty if he is found guilty.

Aronberg believes that Kohberger’s defense team is attempting to exhaust all possible avenues to save his client’s life, but he is skeptical of their chances of success.

“I think the prosecution has a strong case, and I think Kohberger will be convicted and ultimately face the death penalty,” Aronberg said.
