A group supporting Palestine, named after a deceased activist, has claimed responsibility for setting fire to several police cars in Portland, Oregon.

The Rachel Corrie’s Ghost Brigade made a statement on the Rose City Counter-Info website, announcing the torching of police vehicles at their training facility.

Rachel Corrie, an activist who died in Gaza while trying to protect a home from demolition, inspired the group with her dedication to Palestinian issues. The group stated that they set fire to the cars in honor of various causes, including Palestinian martyrs and Black and Indigenous rebels. The post also mentioned preemptive action due to previous incidents at universities.

The Portland Police Department confirmed that seventeen police cars were torched, and they are investigating the incident. The group’s message emphasized the importance of taking proactive measures against authorities. The university library, which was occupied by protesters, sustained significant damage and will be closed until fall for repairs.
