Governor Doug Burgum (R-ND) expressed his belief on CNN’s “State of the Union” that it would be a “travesty of justice” if former President Donald Trump were to be convicted in the New York business records trial.
Anchor Jake Tapper mentioned that polling indicates a majority of Americans think Trump may have committed a crime or acted unethically in the case.
Burgum responded by stating that if Trump were to be convicted, it would be unjust as the charges stem from a business filing error and non-disclosure agreements, which are common practices.
He also suggested that the timing of the trial appears politically motivated, aimed at influencing the upcoming election.
Burgum emphasized that the outcome of the trial is unlikely to sway opinions and may even strengthen support for Trump by highlighting perceived attacks from the Biden administration.
