A tragic scene unfolded in the suburban Long Island community of Syosset on Sunday, as police discovered the bodies of five people at a local residence.
Responding to a report of shots fired, officers arrived at the scene to find the body of a man outside the home with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A further search of the property revealed the bodies of four additional individuals inside the residence, located approximately 15 miles east of New York City.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, all five victims were pronounced dead by a police medic at the scene. A homicide squad has been activated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The police department has thus far declined to release any additional information regarding the incident, as the investigation remains ongoing.
