The Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement Department rescued 225 animals from two homes in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. A search warrant executed on April 16 at a home on Brockman McClimon Road revealed 80 animals on the premises, including 66 dogs, 10 pigs, two donkeys, a goat, and a sheep. The animals were found living in poor conditions, with kennels containing dogs living in feces and dirty water. Some dogs had matted fur and wounds.

Nine arrest warrants were issued for Tonji Lavonne Meredith for allegedly mistreating animals, along with additional warrants for county code violations. John Richard Waldrop also received an arrest warrant for animal mistreatment. One of the dogs removed from the property was placed under rabies quarantine after biting an officer.

Further investigations led to the discovery of a breeding operation at a home on Thompson Road in Pacolet, run by Patricia Mildean Johns and Wayne Edward Johns. They are facing charges of cruelty and have received summons under county animal control ordinances for animal cruelty.

In 2022, the Charleston Animal Society reported rescuing 166 dogs living in inhumane conditions in partnership with Anderson County PAWS. The animals rescued in this case were sent to Greenville County Animal Care or Anderson County PAWS for care.
