Poland is investing approximately $2.5 billion to enhance security and deterrence on its border with Russia and Belarus. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the Shield-East project, which involves constructing military fortifications to strengthen the border. Tusk emphasized that Poland, as a member of NATO and the EU, has a responsibility for Europe’s security.
“We have decided to invest in our safety, particularly in securing our eastern border, with a budget of around $2.5 billion,” Tusk stated. The project aims to create a secure border with proper fortifications and environmental measures to make it impenetrable to potential enemies.
Speaking to Polish troops in Krakow, Tusk highlighted the significance of ensuring a safe border, especially in times of peace and war. The previous government built a $400 million wall on the Belarusian border to manage the influx of migrants, but the current administration believes further strengthening is necessary.
Poland, a strong ally of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, is committed to enhancing its border security and defense capabilities.
