Philadelphia has achieved a new Guinness World Record for the “largest attendance at a drag queen story time reading” in celebration of LGBTQ Pride Month, according to event organizers.
The record-setting event took place on Saturday at the National Constitution Center, with “several hundred people” participating, as reported by WHYY here.
A representative from Guinness World Records was present to officially verify the new record.

Some social media users noted that fewer than 300 attendees at the event in a city of nearly 1.6 million residents highlights that “a vocal minority is trying to sexualize kids.”

Guinness also recognizes a record for the most-attended drag brunch, which saw 412 people gather in New York City in June 2023. The event was hosted by H&M, the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, and Gayletter.
