The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) has accused a convoy of Mexican National Guard soldiers of shooting at two female political candidates in Jalisco. The incident took place in Villa Purificacion, a small town in Jalisco, where the candidates were traveling in a vehicle with three other individuals. The soldiers allegedly opened fire on them, injuring the driver who had to be taken to the hospital. The other passengers were unharmed and not detained.

The PRI is calling for an investigation by the federal and state governments and requesting protection for their candidates. This incident comes amidst a violent electoral season in Mexico, with numerous candidates and political workers being targeted. The upcoming presidential election and other local elections are expected to be highly contested between the ruling Morena Party and an alliance of opposition parties.

Ildefonso Ortiz and Brandon Darby from Truth Voices Texas have reported on this story. They can be contacted via email or social media for more information.
