A nurse at UPMC Altoona was fired and charged for potential diversion of controlled substances in late 2023, according to the Office of the Attorney General (AG). Beth Eyer, 42, from Cassandra, was charged after an investigation revealed discrepancies in documenting the administration of controlled substances to multiple patients. Eyer denied diverting any drugs but admitted to not properly documenting medication administration and assessments. UPMC Unit Directors were notified of these discrepancies on December 27 and December 28, leading to Eyer’s suspension and eventual termination on January 24. Eyer later admitted to the AG office that she failed to document controlled substance administration but maintained she did not divert any drugs. She is charged with refusal to keep records, and a preliminary hearing is set for June 5.
