North Carolina Governor Candidate Mark Robinson Aims to Overhaul State Government

Mark Robinson, a candidate for governor in North Carolina, aims to transform the state’s government if he secures a victory this November. During a comprehensive speech this past weekend, he detailed his plans.

The Republican lieutenant governor honed in on education while speaking at the North Carolina Republican Party Convention in Greensboro. He criticized school officials “who think they know more than you, know your children better than you, who believe it’s okay to feed your children a steady diet of communism and pornography,” according to state outlet WRAL. He also expressed optimism about the Tar Heel State’s economic potential, saying it is about to “explode.”

“North Carolina is literally on the cusp of exploding economically,” Robinson stated. “It’s time for us to direct that explosion in the right way and cause this state to be something better than it already is.”

Robinson has promoted themes similar to those of national Republicans in his gubernatorial campaign, focusing on parental rights, the economy, and environmental regulations. He also described his plans to appoint influential officials to manage state government operations.

“… That’s what we intend to bring, to the office of the governor,” he remarked. “We intend to bring change.”

Robinson is competing against Democratic Attorney General Josh Stein to replace the term-limited Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC). The election is predicted to be closely contested, mirroring North Carolina’s importance in the presidential election, with Democrats striving to secure President Joe Biden’s victory and turn the state blue.

Former President Donald Trump has endorsed Robinson, likening him in March to “Martin Luther King on steroids.” During his Saturday speech, Robinson defended Trump, criticizing the media’s focus on Trump’s trials rather than addressing what he termed the “failures of the Democratic Party.”

At the convention on Friday, speeches were given by Trump’s son, Eric Trump, and his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, co-chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, celebrating the overall changes within the Republican Party.

Robinson’s tenure as lieutenant governor has been marked by controversy due to remarks disparaging the LGBT community, using antisemitic tropes, and comments perceived as misogynistic.
