An unexpected bond has formed between a nine-year-old boy from Louisiana and a wealthy businessman after the child mistook him for a homeless person and offered him his last dollar.
When a fire alarm interrupted television personality and owner of a sporting goods brand Matt Busbice in April, he quickly threw on some mismatched clothes and headed outside. He ended up at a nearby coffee shop, where he began to pray on the patio.
As Busbice stood with his eyes closed, young Kelvin Ellis Jr. approached him and opened his hand to reveal a $1 bill he had received from his father for doing well in school. Thinking Busbice was homeless, the generous boy offered him the dollar, expressing his desire to help those in need.
Surprised but touched by the gesture, Busbice invited Ellis Jr. to have breakfast with him. The boy sought permission from his father and then returned to enjoy a meal with the businessman. Impressed by the boy’s kindness, Busbice treated him to a shopping spree at his store, where Ellis Jr. picked out clothes and a new bike.
Moved by the experience, Busbice emphasized the importance of generosity and giving back. Despite receiving gifts, Ellis Jr. explained that his intention was simply to help someone in need and experience the joy of giving.
