A Texas woman was taken into custody in Washington, D.C. on Friday, accused of making threats against former President Donald Trump, just weeks after a gunman attempted to take his life at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Christina Montoya, a resident of San Antonio, was found with an unlicensed firearm and a magazine in her possession when she was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department, according to reports. Although the exact nature of the threats she allegedly made against Trump is unclear, authorities say she had been in the nation’s capital for some time before her arrest.

Montoya’s arrest occurred near Capitol Hill, just a few miles from the White House, where she was found with the gun and magazine on her person. The police report lists an “offense start date” of July 20, 2024, but it is unclear when the threats were made.

The incident comes on the heels of a failed assassination attempt against Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. Trump, who was in the Hamptons meeting with donors at the time of Montoya’s arrest, credited divine intervention for his survival during a subsequent rally in Atlanta, Georgia.

Trump praised the bravery of the Secret Service agents who protected him during the shooting, which left him with a bullet wound to the upper part of his ear. The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed by Secret Service officers at the scene. One bystander was killed and two others were critically injured in the incident.

Montoya faces charges of possessing an unregistered firearm, carrying a pistol without a license, and making threats against a former president. Trump is listed as the victim in the latter charge.
