A recent Harvard-Harris poll has found that former President Donald Trump has taken a three-point lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in a hypothetical presidential matchup. The poll, conducted between July 26 and 28, surveyed 2,196 registered voters nationwide and found that 48% of respondents would vote for Trump, while 45% would support Harris.

The poll’s results come on the heels of President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will not seek re-election and his endorsement of Harris as the Democratic Party’s nominee. The survey also took place after Trump was injured during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.

The poll found that Trump and Harris have similar favorability ratings, with 48% of voters viewing Trump as “very favorable” or “favorable,” and 47% holding a similar view of Harris. However, both candidates also have high unfavorability ratings, with 48% of voters viewing Trump as “very unfavorable” or “unfavorable,” and 47% holding a similar view of Harris.

The Harvard-Harris poll’s findings are consistent with a recent McLaughlin & Associates survey, which found that Trump was leading Harris nationally by two points. This margin is similar to the lead Trump had over President Biden prior to their June 27 debate.

The poll’s results suggest that the 2024 presidential election could be a closely contested and highly polarized contest, with both Trump and Harris having strong support among their respective bases.
