The Biden campaign is reminding voters about the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy at the southern border, six years after it was first introduced. In a new digital ad, the Biden campaign is highlighting the harsh approach taken by Donald Trump while in office, including the separation of migrant families in an effort to deter illegal crossings, as a failed strategy for the upcoming election. Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez condemned Trump’s actions, accusing him of ripping innocent children from their mothers and celebrating these cruel policies.
The Biden administration has reunited about 700 separated families as of last summer, with first lady Jill Biden leading the effort. Chavez Rodriguez warned that if Trump is reelected, he will continue to escalate the chaos and cruelty at the border without addressing the underlying issues in the immigration system. She asserted that Trump’s divisive tactics will not be successful in the long run.
On the other hand, the Trump campaign criticized President Biden for repealing his predecessor’s immigration policies, claiming that it has created a crisis at the southern border and increased human trafficking. They promised that under a Trump administration, effective immigration policies would be reinstated, with new crackdowns on criminal smugglers and a focus on deporting illegal criminals, drug dealers, and human traffickers.
The Biden campaign plans to target Latino voters in key battleground states with their ad titled “Ripped Apart,” as polls show a decline in support for Biden among this demographic. Trump’s favorability rating has seen some improvement, currently at 44%-53%, up from 37%-57% in December 2022.
