A new six-figure ad buy, funded by Rep. Wesley Hunt’s Hellfire PAC, is set to air on CNN and Fox News in several swing states ahead of the presidential debate on Thursday. The 60-second ad targets President Joe Biden’s history of “discriminatory policies” and “racially insensitive” remarks, highlighting a series of past comments that sparked controversy.
The ad, which will appear in cities with significant black populations in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, features a montage of Biden’s past comments, including his 2020 statement that “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”
Hunt, a black Republican from Texas, said the ad aims to reveal the truth about Biden’s record on race. “Joe Biden’s political career is littered with racially insensitive comments, discriminatory policies, and self-lauded partnerships with segregationists,” he claimed. “And until she was chosen to be his running mate in 2020, Kamala Harris agreed.”
The ad buy is seen as a response to Biden’s declining support among black voters, with some polls showing him losing ground compared to his numbers in 2020. Hunt, a firm Trump ally, is rumored to be a potential running mate for the presumptive Republican nominee.
The Biden campaign responded to the ad announcement, accusing Trump and his allies of spreading racist conspiracies. “While Joe Biden achieved record low Black unemployment, secured historic funding for our HBCUs, capped the cost of insulin, and secured billions in student loan forgiveness to close the racial wealth gap, Donald Trump left the Black community with nothing but skyrocketing unemployment and uninsured rates,” said Biden campaign spokeswoman Sarafina Chitika.
