NBC has replaced its morning program MSNBC’s Morning Joe with live news coverage, following the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump and as the Republican National Convention gets underway in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The decision comes as a notable departure from the show’s usual broadcast schedule.
Morning Joe, hosted by married co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, has drawn criticism for its consistently negative and critical coverage of President Trump. Scarborough has been particularly vocal in his criticism of those who have raised concerns about Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s mental fitness.
In the weeks leading up to the presidential debate, Scarborough made headlines for his comments, stating, “Start your tape right now, because I’m about to tell you the truth. And f-you if you can’t handle the truth. This version of Biden intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever.” The show and its guests have also been accused of promoting vitriolic hatred towards President Trump, which some argue contributes to a toxic political climate.
