National Police Week began in Washington D.C. to honor those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice. Families of fallen officers gathered at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to pay their respects, including Lynn Harris from Riverside, California, who lost her son Deputy Brett Harris a year ago. This week also saw the tragic death of 23-year-old police officer Jacob Derbin from Euclid, Ohio, who was killed in an ambush attack. The community mourns the loss of these officers, with 21 already killed in the line of duty this year. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial will add nearly 300 names this year, including 118 officers who died last year. Ceremonies and vigils are taking place throughout the week to honor and remember these brave individuals. Attorney General Merrick Garland will read the names of Navy officers who lost their lives in recent years.
