Millions Follow Trump on TikTok, Surpassing Biden

Former President Donald Trump’s new TikTok account has garnered over 4 million followers as of Monday afternoon, surpassing the Biden-Harris HQ account by more than tenfold.

Trump has uploaded a single video on his TikTok profile so far, which showcases UFC President Dana White introducing him to the platform. This lone video has amassed 69 million views. The account was launched on Saturday, just days after the former president was found guilty of all 34 counts in his hush money trial in Manhattan, marking him as the first former U.S. president convicted of a felony crime.

The Biden-Harris HQ account, created to promote President Joe Biden and his reelection campaign, was launched in mid-February and has roughly 347,000 followers. The account had a slow start, gaining only 56,800 followers initially.

The latest video from Biden-Harris HQ addresses the report alleging that Trump used the N-word while discussing his reality TV show, The Apprentice. This video has approximately 1.3 million views since it was uploaded on Sunday. The account has amassed 4.5 million likes in total, which is only about half a million more than the likes Trump’s single video has received within just two days.

Despite signing a bill that could potentially lead to a ban on TikTok in the United States, Biden has been active on the platform. The bill, signed in April, mandates TikTok to divest entirely from ByteDance, a Chinese tech company, or face a ban.

Prior to Biden signing the bill, Trump advised younger individuals to remember that “crooked Joe Biden” was responsible for banning the platform.

The former president had also suggested banning TikTok during his term, but has since changed his stance. He now warns that banning TikTok would only expand Facebook’s influence. Trump has also called Facebook the “enemy of the people,” likely referencing the platform, along with Twitter, for censoring a story about Hunter Biden in October 2020, weeks before the presidential election.
