Mexico’s government has supplied buses and trucks to assist several hundred migrants who have been traveling through Mexico for more than a month towards the country’s northern border. The state government of Oaxaca recently provided the migrants with transportation to move them north to Puebla, along with a state sporting arena for them to rest before continuing their journey. According to reports, the authorities provided the migrants with ten buses and five pickups to facilitate their journey.

The migrant caravan has been on the move for over a month, starting from Mexico’s southern border and passing through Chiapas and Oaxaca on foot. Government officials in various cities have offered them places to sleep and rest along the way.

While the ultimate destination for many migrants is the U.S.-Mexico border, their current priority is reaching Mexico City, where they can then board commercial buses or in some cases, airplanes to travel to border cities experiencing an influx of migrants. Mexican officials have been issuing travel permits to most migrants, allowing them to move freely within the country for a specific period.

The issue of migrant caravans coincides with accusations of Mexico’s government using immigration to pressure the U.S. government into funding projects favored by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Migrants have reported being detained by National Immigration Institute agents and sent back to the southern border, forcing them to restart their journey.

Ildefonso Ortiz and Brandon Darby, journalists with Truth Voices Texas, have been closely following the developments of the migrant caravan. They can be reached via their social media accounts for further updates on this ongoing issue.
