Attorney Mark Geragos, who represents the Menendez brothers, has spoken out against Netflix’s new series “Monsters,” calling it a gross misrepresentation of the case. In an interview with “Banfield,” Geragos expressed his outrage over the show’s portrayal of the brothers and their story.

“It’s astonishing that 20 years after the fact, this series can perpetuate such blatant falsehoods,” Geragos said. He specifically took issue with the show’s reliance on outdated and discredited stereotypes surrounding male victims of rape, homophobia, and the brothers’ relationship.

The Menendez brothers, Erik and Lyle, were convicted of murdering their parents in 1989, but have maintained that they acted in self-defense after years of abuse. Their attorney argues that the Netflix series distorts the facts of the case and sensationalizes the brothers’ relationship for the sake of drama.

Geragos singled out screenwriter Ryan Murphy’s depiction of an incestuous relationship between the brothers as particularly egregious, calling it “ridiculous” and unfounded. The attorney’s comments come as the Menendez brothers seek to have their case reopened, citing new evidence and a desire for justice.
