Media Missteps: Acosta and CNN’s Struggle with Objective Reporting

0:00

CNN’s Jim Acosta has become synonymous with his vocal criticism of former President Trump, sparking frequent sparring matches and earning the ire of Trump’s supporters. Acosta’s oppositional stance often results in his words being met with the now-familiar “CNN sucks” chant at rallies.

The phenomenon is not unique to Acosta, as many media figures feel compelled to express views contrary to Trump’s, even when facts and reason suggest otherwise. This trend was evident during Trump’s presidency, when he was accused of being dishonest and making baseless claims.

A recent instance of this dynamic played out after Trump stated that Haiti is a “s**thole country.” While Acosta and others in the media rushed to defend the nation, Trump’s assessment was not entirely unfounded. However, his criticism was met with fierce opposition from those who disagreed with his characterization.

Following the assassination attempt on Trump, the former president made comments regarding the Secret Service’s response, saying that they failed to protect him. Acosta countered that Trump’s remarks were “irresponsible.”

However, further investigation revealed that the Secret Service had identified a security vulnerability and failed to address it, allowing the attacker to gain access to the rooftop.

It was also discovered that the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was able to fly a drone over the rally site and gather aerial surveillance before the attack. Despite having a rangefinder, Crooks was not apprehended until after he opened fire. The Secret Service had been alerted to a potential threat 10 minutes prior to Trump taking the stage, and their snipers had a clear shot at the attacker for two minutes before he fired.

In light of these facts, Acosta’s criticism of Trump’s comments appears unfounded. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned in the aftermath of the incident, which raises questions about the agency’s performance.

The debacle has further eroded trust in the media, with Acosta and his colleagues being widely criticized for their handling of the situation. The “CNN sucks” chant, once a rallying cry for Trump’s supporters, has become a symbol of the public’s frustration with the media’s biases and incompetence.
