State Senator John McGuire (R-56) is currently leading U.S. Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) in the GOP primary for Virginia’s Fifth Congressional District, according to an internal poll conducted by McGuire’s campaign. The poll, conducted by Battleground Connect and shared with Cardinal News, shows McGuire with a 14-point lead over Good, with 45 percent support compared to Good’s 31 percent. The poll also found that 24 percent of voters are undecided.

Since December, McGuire has gained 21 points while Good has lost 15 points, resulting in a significant 36-point swing towards McGuire. McGuire’s campaign spokesperson highlighted the dissatisfaction with Good, stating that Good has alienated various segments of the party, including the Trump base, by not supporting former President Trump during his challenges. Good had initially backed Gov. Ron DeSantis over Trump in the Republican presidential primary before eventually switching his endorsement back to Trump.

McGuire, a strong supporter of Trump, criticized Good for being a “Never Trumper since Day 1” in an email to CBS 19 news. McGuire has garnered support from prominent figures like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani, and has been seen alongside Trump at several events in recent months.

While Trump has not officially endorsed a candidate in the race, McGuire has expressed his support for Trump and his agenda. The poll, which surveyed 504 likely GOP primary voters from May 2-5, has a margin of error of ± 4.4 percentage points.
