An election worker in Maricopa County, Arizona was arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing items from an election center.

Walter Ringfield, 27, was taken into custody after law enforcement officials found that he had stolen a security fob and keys from the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Center.

The Maricopa County Elections Department revealed that during a daily inventory on Friday morning, it was discovered that an item had gone missing from the Ballot Tabulation Center and was believed to have been taken the night before.

In response to the theft, election workers took immediate action to investigate and contacted the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. The stolen item has since been recovered, and election officials are reprogramming and re-testing all equipment to ensure the integrity of the Maricopa County elections.

During questioning, Ringfield denied taking the items, but officers discovered part of the keys in his car during a subsequent search of his home.

As a result of being on probation, Ringfield is currently not eligible for bond.
