The Chicago Police Department has reported that the man accused of shooting and killing Officer Luis Huesca has been apprehended. Xavier L. Tate, 22, was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force at an apartment complex in Glendale Heights. Tate was arrested with Officer Huesca’s handcuffs, and sources revealed that he had been under surveillance and recently traveled to Iowa.

Officer Huesca was tragically shot multiple times on April 21 while coming home from a shift in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood. He passed away in uniform, and his death is classified as in the line of duty, allowing his family to receive survivors’ benefits. Following the incident, police released videos of a man believed to be Tate, seen in two convenience stores and the vicinity of the shooting.

An arrest warrant for Tate was issued, and the FBI included him on its Most Wanted list, offering a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to his capture. The investigation is ongoing, and the Chicago Police Department has asked for continued support and prayers for the Huesca family as they grieve the loss of their loved one.

Funeral services for Officer Huesca were held on Monday, and the story will be updated as more details become available.
