The Metropolitan Police have officially charged a man with murder following a sword attack in East London that resulted in the death of a teenage boy and injuries to several individuals, including police officers. The suspect, Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a 36-year-old Spanish-Brazilian dual national, appeared in court where he confirmed his name and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance at the Old Bailey.

Monzo allegedly crashed a van into a man and a property before attacking people with a samurai-style sword, resulting in the death of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin and injuries to four others, including two police officers. He has been charged with murder, attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed weapon.

The investigation is ongoing, with Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith thanking witnesses for their cooperation and urging patience as they work to deliver justice. The incident has prompted discussions about police equipment and response tactics, as responding officers were unable to incapacitate Monzo with standard equipment.

The victim, Daniel Anjorin, was a student at Bancroft’s School in London, the same school where Grace O’Malley-Kumar was fatally stabbed the year before. The school flag was flown at half-mast in mourning for the tragic loss of both students.
