According to a recent Suffolk University/USA Today poll, the majority of voters predict that former President Donald Trump will be convicted on some charges in the business records trial. The survey revealed that 65% of voters believe Trump will be found guilty on at least some of the 34 counts brought forth by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Half of the voters predicted Trump would be found guilty on some counts, with 15% believing he would be guilty on all counts.

Additionally, the poll showed that a plurality of voters feel that the trial has been unfair. Forty-four percent of voters do not believe the trial has been fair, while 39% believe Trump is receiving a fair trial. Party lines seemed to influence opinions on fairness, with 76% of Democrats saying Trump is receiving a fair trial, compared to 80% of Republicans who claimed it has not been fair.

The survey was conducted from April 30 to May 3, 2024, with 1,000 registered voters participating. The margin of error was ± 3.1 percentage points. The poll also indicated that Trump and Joe Biden were tied at 37% in the presidential race. In related news, Judge Juan Merchan found Trump in criminal contempt of court for violating a gag order, leading to fines and warnings of potential jail time for future violations.
