A recent survey conducted by the Young America’s Foundation found that a majority of students, both high school and college-age, do not believe President Joe Biden is mentally fit to be president. The survey, conducted by Echelon Insights, asked students if they thought Biden was “mentally fit enough to handle the job of President.” Overall, 56 percent of students responded with a resounding “no,” while 30 percent said he is mentally fit, and 14 percent remained unsure.
Conservative students were most critical of Biden, with 79 percent saying he is not mentally fit for the job. Moderate students followed closely, with 61 percent expressing similar concerns. Liberal students, however, were more divided, with 35 percent agreeing that Biden is not mentally fit and 54 percent believing he is.
The survey also asked students about former President Donald Trump, with 42 percent saying he is mentally fit enough to be president and 44 percent disagreeing. The poll found that a significant majority of students, 55 percent, lack confidence in Biden’s ability to effectively lead on issues affecting young people.
Furthermore, the survey revealed that most students, 53 percent, either strongly or somewhat disapprove of Biden’s performance as president. The survey, conducted among over 1,600 students from June 4-9, 2024, has a +/- 5.2 percent margin of error for high school students and +/- 5.3 percent for college students.
The results come as some Democrats have begun to question Biden’s fitness for office following his debate performance last week. Representative Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) publicly called for Biden to drop out, citing his inability to effectively defend his accomplishments and expose Trump’s lies.
