Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has pledged to prosecute individuals responsible for the violence that occurred at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) during an attack on the illegal “Palestine Solidarity Encampment.” In a statement, Bass expressed her desire for all parties involved in the violence to be held accountable, including those who reportedly used fireworks during the altercation. She emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the events that transpired and reiterated her commitment to protecting free speech while condemning violence and bigotry.

Governor Newsom also offered his support in addressing the violence at UCLA, after maintaining silence for several days while pro-Palestinian activists engaged in assaults and obstructed students and journalists. It was reported that about 100 pro-Israel vigilantes attempted to storm the encampment, leading to clashes with barricades erected by both the activists and the university.

Los Angeles County prosecutor George Gascón’s handling of violent crime has been criticized for being lenient, while Mayor Bass has been focused on addressing homelessness in the city. UCLA Chancellor Gene Block has further committed to disciplining any students involved in the violence and supporting prosecution.

The incident at UCLA has sparked a debate surrounding the actions of both pro-Israel vigilantes and pro-Palestinian activists, highlighting the need for accountability and a commitment to upholding peace and safety on campus.
