A 19-year-old missionary from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah County has been charged with first-degree felony rape, as per court documents.

The Saratoga Springs Police Department responded to a call near 700 West and Blue Mountain Drive, where a neighbor reported a sexual assault on her sister. Abraham Issac Cruz Hernandez was found by officers in the driveway of the home.

Hernandez admitted to being alone with the victim in the garage and engaging in sexual activity, but refused to answer further questions.

The victim accused him of forcibly touching her and performing sexual acts without consent.

Hernandez was arrested on charges of rape, forcible sodomy, and sexual battery and was booked into Utah County Jail.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stated they are cooperating with law enforcement and have removed Hernandez from missionary service pending investigation.

Missionaries are expected to uphold high standards and any misconduct could result in release and potential loss of Church membership.
