Former news anchor Lauren Sivan expressed her disappointment and heartbreak over the overturned conviction of Harvey Weinstein in New York. Sivan, who accused Weinstein of exposing himself to her in 2007, is one of over 100 women who came forward with allegations of misconduct against the fallen movie mogul. She submitted an affidavit detailing her encounter with Weinstein at a New York City restaurant for his trials in New York and Los Angeles.
Despite not being part of the criminal cases, Sivan recounted the traumatic experience of Weinstein exposing himself to her and the impact it had on her. She voiced concerns about Weinstein’s separate Los Angeles conviction potentially being overturned on appeal as well.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg expressed his intention to retry Weinstein on rape and sexual assault charges following the overturning of his New York conviction last month. Weinstein’s attorney believes that the overturned conviction in New York could impact his California rape case, potentially leading to his release from prison.
At 72 years old, Weinstein is currently serving a 16-year sentence for the Los Angeles rape conviction, in addition to the now-vacated 23-year prison term in New York. Despite his age and incarceration, Sivan and other accusers remain wary of the possibility of Weinstein being freed and the potential consequences of his revenge.
