Shoppers might be eligible to receive up to $500 from Walmart, with only seven days remaining to claim the settlement.

Walmart settled a class action lawsuit that accused the retailer of overcharging customers for products sold by weight, such as meat and fruit. Any customer who has proof of purchase for packaged meat, poultry, pork, or seafood sold by weight between Oct. 19, 2018, and Jan. 19, 2024, can claim a portion of the settlement.

The company agreed to compensate shoppers with 2% of their total spending on the overpriced items, with a maximum payout of $500.

Those without proof of purchase may still receive smaller payouts of either $10 or $25, pending approval.

Customers who did not keep their paper receipts can retrieve them from Walmart’s website using specific information. Shoppers will need to provide the purchase date, store ZIP code, receipt total, and the last four digits of the credit or debit card used.

Though Walmart denies overcharging customers, the company told MarketWatch that settling the case was the best option.

“We still deny the allegations, however we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties,” a Walmart spokesperson told the outlet. “We will continue providing our customers everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need.”
