A sheriff in Wyoming is getting creative to address what he describes as a recruitment shortage.

Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozak reports that his agency’s latest advertising campaign has received a “very positive” response, particularly from the local community.

One of the campaign’s taglines, “Work in Wyoming, where breaking the law is still illegal,” generated so much interest that the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office contacted officials in Colorado to explore recruitment opportunities there too. They recently placed a billboard with the tagline in Denver to coincide with National Police Week.

“We hear that officers there are frustrated,” Kozak said.

Now, the department is receiving applications from “all over the country,” Sheriff Kozak said Monday on “Morning in America.” He mentioned that his office has even received inquiries from distant places such as Japan and Australia.

“Our target was originally Colorado, but we’re getting just a massive amount of applications from all over,” Kozak said. “So, this is great news for us.”
