Republican National Committee co-chairwoman Lara Trump suggested that there is a connection between Donald Trump’s ongoing criminal trial and the recent surge in fundraising for the Republican campaign. Despite Trump being preoccupied with his trial in New York, where he faces multiple felony charges related to alleged payments to silence women, fundraising efforts have been successful. Lara Trump accused Democrats of strategically timing the trial to hinder Trump’s ability to campaign, but she believes this tactic will ultimately backfire on them.
The RNC saw a significant increase in fundraising on the day Trump appeared in court for jury selection. Donations totaled $1.5 million on the first day and doubled three days later, with more contributions coming in since then. Lara Trump highlighted the success of their April fundraising, which exceeded expectations at $76 million, with the majority of donations coming from individuals contributing less than $30. She emphasized that the American people understand the importance of supporting Trump through this legal battle and the attempt to interfere in the election.
On the other hand, the Biden campaign has not yet released its April fundraising data. The RNC and Trump campaign raised $65.6 million in March and recently hosted a fundraiser that brought in $50.5 million, a record-breaking amount for a political fundraiser. The continued influx of donations is helping to narrow the fundraising gap between the two presidential candidates.
