Rock musician Kid Rock praised former President Donald Trump for his promise to eliminate taxes on tips if reelected, calling the move “genius.”
Trump announced this campaign promise last week at a rally in Nevada, a state he lost to President Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, emphasized that as a bar owner, he understands the challenges faced by bar and restaurant owners, and called Trump’s promise “HUGE.”
“Most small businesses have had challenges in staffing,” Kid Rock wrote on Truth Social. “This will solve so many problems for so many hard-working Americans! Trump is a genius and for the working class! Biden is straight Hollywood!”
Kid Rock shared a photo of a restaurant receipt on which he wrote, “a vote for Trump is a vote for no tax on tip!!” and left a $400 tip for the waiter.
The musician also posted a video of Trump speaking at a rally in Detroit, Michigan, where Trump reiterated his promise to remove taxes on tips. Trump mentioned that Kid Rock had sent him a photo of his restaurant receipt, noting the musician was “very smart” to encourage waiters to vote for him.
However, Trump’s promise faces a significant hurdle as the president lacks the authority to change taxation on tipped income. This change would require Congressional action. Trump’s campaign told Truth Voices that he would ask Congress to take up this issue.
Trump and Kid Rock have a history of mutual support, with the two attending a UFC match together in November. Last weekend, Trump introduced Kid Rock at his concert via a video message, praising him as “one of the greatest entertainers of our time” and calling the concert attendees “the true backbone of our great country.”
