Republicans are seizing on a recent plea deal with the masterminds behind the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to attack Vice President Kamala Harris. The deal, reached by the Department of Defense, has sparked outrage among Republicans, who are now linking Harris to the agreement.

House Republicans took to social media to express their discontent, claiming that Harris had a hand in the plea deal that spared the trio the death penalty. “Kamala Harris cut a sweetheart plea deal with the 9/11 mastermind so he could avoid the death penalty,” read a post from the House Republicans X account.

The post was accompanied by a video clip of Harris from 2018, in which she suggested that convicted terrorists should have the right to vote from prison. “I think we should have that conversation,” Harris said at the time.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) echoed the sentiment, saying that the plea deal was a “slap in the face” to the families of those killed in the 9/11 attacks. “For more than two decades, the families of those murdered by these terrorists have waited for justice,” Johnson said. “This plea deal is a betrayal of that trust.”

Former Trump senior adviser Stephen Miller also weighed in, directly blaming Harris for the plea deal.

“Kamala Harris approved a sweetheart deal for the 9/11 mastermind,” Miller said. “How is this not completely disqualifying?”

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) denounced the deal as “sickening,” saying that it shattered the promise made to the American people after the 9/11 attacks. “The families of the nearly 3,000 Americans killed on 9/11 and thousands of first responders who died from 9/11 health-related illnesses, our service members, and the American people deserve a President that will honor their legacy and uphold the promise to never forget,” Stefanik said.
