Vice President Kamala Harris sparked controversy yesterday when discussing presidential accountability with Fox News anchor Bret Baier. In a heated exchange, Harris emphasized that presidents and vice presidents must take responsibility for the actions of their administrations.

The conversation began when Baier pressed Harris about a campaign ad in Pennsylvania that accused her of supporting “taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners.” Harris responded that she would follow the law, pointing out that former President Donald Trump had done the same. However, when Baier noted that Trump denied advocating for such a policy and that no gender transition surgeries took place during his presidency, Harris took a different tone.

“I think what’s important to remember is that presidents and vice presidents have to take responsibility for what happened during their administration,” Harris said. Her statement drew attention from social media users, who pointed out that she had not taken responsibility for the Biden-Harris administration’s own shortcomings.

Critics took aim at Harris’s handling of issues like inflation, immigration, and crime, which have all risen under her watch. Columnist Derek Hunter wrote, “She says this about Trump just after claiming zero responsibility for the last 4 years.”

Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT) tweeted, “WOW. Kamala Harris just admitted that she is responsible for 20 percent inflation, a decline in take-home pay, and two new wars.” Owens also accused Harris of being responsible for the influx of 10+ million illegal immigrants and a 4.5 percent increase in violent crime.

Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) chimed in, writing, “This November 5th, the American people will hold YOU responsible for ALL of it, Kamala.” Hudson referenced record-high inflation, record-high illegal crossings, and record-high crime as examples of Harris’s failings.

The exchange has left many questioning Harris’s commitment to accountability. As the elections approach, Harris’s stance on presidential responsibility is likely to remain a contentious issue.
