Closing arguments in former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial could begin as early as Tuesday, with a verdict potentially by the end of next week.

Judge Juan Merchan estimated the trial, which started April 15, would last six to eight weeks, but it may conclude ahead of schedule.

Trump’s attorney plans to finish cross-examining the prosecution’s final witness, Michael Cohen, by Monday.

The defense may call former Federal Election Commission Chairman Bradley Smith to speak about campaign finance laws.

Prosecutors allege Trump falsified business records to conceal payment to Stormy Daniels, but evidence suggests Cohen handled the payment.

Trump has not testified, and it is uncertain if he will take the stand. Merchan’s decision to allow unrelated legal troubles to be raised during questioning caused uncertainty.

The jury must reach a unanimous decision on the 34 counts Trump faces, or a mistrial may be declared.
